The Untethered Soul (meaningful excerpts) …

During the past year I have had the good fortune to read an extremely meaningful and fortuitous book, “The Untethered Soul” … fortuitous in terms of the timing of when and how it came to me. It is one of a handful of books, over the course of my life, to have drastically altered me. Lately I’ve been re-reading it, while doing cardio at the gym, by opening it up to whatever page wants to present itself to me. I found the following excerpts to be powerful (yet again):

“Life is surrounding you with people and situations that stimulate your growth. You don’t have to decide who’s right or wrong. You don’t have to worry about other people’s issues. You only have to be willing to open your heart in the face of anything and everything, and permit the purification process to take place …

The stuff that holds you down periodically rears its head. When it does, let it go. You simply permit the pain to come up into your heart and pass through. If you do that, it will pass. If you are sincerely seeking truth, you’ll let go every time. This is the beginning and end of the entire path – you surrender yourself to the process of emptying yourself …

Getting involved in the darkness does not dispel darkness; it feeds it. Don’t even turn toward it. If you see disturbed energies within you, it’s okay. Don’t think that you don’t have blockages left to release. Just sit in the seat of awareness and never leave. No matter what goes on below you, open your heart and let it go. Your heart will become purified, and you will never know another fall …

Always let go as soon as you’re aware that you didn’t. Don’t waste your time; use the energy to go up. You are a great being who has been given a tremendous opportunity to explore beyond yourself …

So don’t fall. Let go. No matter what it is, let it go …

That which is holding you down can become a powerful force that raises you up.

You just have to be willing to take the ascent.”

Religion4All is an idea: that every human being (no matter their race, religion, sexuality, social status, lifestyle, or any other possible factor) is LOVED by God; just … as … they are.

We all are loved by God, and NO religion or person has a monopoly on it. Every single person on this planet is loved equally by God … SO many are cut off from God because they are told they don’t belong. God loves everyone … we ALL are beautiful creations … we don’t need to cringe when we hear the words “God”, or “religion”, or their judgments … God LOVES us all!

There is no requirement to change in order to be LOVED by God, or to LOVE God. God is LOVE, and LOVE is God … period. There is no one who God loves more than anyone else … there are only those who choose to LOVE more … to love God more, and consequently then to love each other more. In doing so, we grow closer to God … and know God.

By opening our hearts, and minds to God (free of boundaries like religion, or social trends); by LOVING God … we are exactly where we are meant to be. If we maintain that openness, never allowing any person or event to make us close our hearts, we will be guided by God to be who we are meant to be.

In that space of openness we can then live a life of LOVE, and be guided to where we are meant to be … forever in LOVE.

The message is beautiful. I honestly only have one issue, and it’s your keywords. You have religions that are polytheist in your keywords but through your text desire them to accept a monotheist view for the sake of “love”. God is not love, love is an emotional response to a desirable interaction with a person, place or thing.

Aside from that, like I said it had a beautiful meaning and should be taken as it was written.

I appreciate your feedback. I personally am a Christian, hence my monotheistic viewpoint, but I am not expecting anyone to adopt my views. My point is that someone else’s religion shouldn’t be a cause for separation. I have been to religious institutions that I am not a member of, and had very meaningful spiritual experiences. I am quite certain that I could attend a service of someone who believed in polytheism, and have a spiritual experience of my own, alongside them. I don’t have the answers, and I am not attempting to make anyone believe what I believe … rather I am saying that we all should be able to believe what we do, together … and celebrate that … to live a life of peace and love regardless of our differences. There is too much judgement and religious persecution clouding what I believe to be God’s message … that being Love. I believe that in simply showing love, God’s message will be received by any who wish to receive it. Perhaps I didn’t adequately express that.

I appreciate your view about God differing from mine as well. I do believe that God is Love. You believe differently, and that is fine with me.

I personally have no issue with monotheism, my only issue is wrapping something like love into a religious category is a dangerous game. From my understanding of the way you are trying to use the term love, maybe acceptance is more the word you are looking for, I may not love someone of another religion but I do accept them and their choices.

I am glad that you accept others religious view points enough to believe you could have an experience right beside them and I definitely agree that we would live in a much more harmonious world if everyone could feel that way.

I should also point out that my wife loves (yup using in my context 😀 ) what you have to say in this post, she has been saying the same thing for years now.

I really appreciate the feedback, and I’ve enjoyed reading your responses.

You could probably say that acceptance would be a somewhat appropriate synonym for what I term as Love. However, I can “accept” that a can of corn is a can of corn … it doesn’t mean that I love that can of corn. I want to share love, not just acceptance … that involves exposing tender parts of myself that can very easily get hurt … it wouldn’t be love otherwise. There may be varying levels of love … but it is still love.

Which is why those particular quotes from Untethered Soul have such extreme meaning for me … to open yourself to loving … especially to loving unconditionally … is a pretty BIG can of worms :-).

The Untethered Soul is one of the most insightful and helpful books I have ever read. I thought his (MIcheal Singer, the author) CD’s were/are even more remarkable! I’ve learned so much from his perspectives!

Religion4All, I appreciate your passion for love and for wanting all to embrace it, but as a Christian believer, you know the Bible teaches that God’s love for us caused him to send Jesus as the sacrifice for our sins (the whole world). For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten ([a]unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.- John 3:16 AMP. That is the love (agape) that is unconditional but we only become God’s children when we accept Jesus as our personal savior. God does love us all but He also requires this action from us.

When observing the extracted text I can clearly see that it mixes some truth and some untruths. It is definitely mixing Eastern and Western religious philosophies together and though it sound so very beautiful, it is a dangerous mix and cannot be mixed with Christianity. This is a type of deception that comes wrapped in the most beautiful packaging.

You do have some of the answers and they are in the Bible. Trust what is says and teaches. Simply showing love without the truth is distorting God’s message to us (Christian perspective). We cannot mix these views together although I know this can change lives. Again, ultimately it is deceptive, and will lead people away from the true source or happiness and peace which is our belief and trust in Jesus Christ. That is part of our basic faith tenants and even if you are not trying to convert people, they need to know the truth.

I invite you to compare some the quotes from this book to biblical teaching and see what you come up with. I intend to do so myself also. I just want you armed with the truth and hope that you receive this in peace.

First, let me say that I have no desire to “argue” with you … what you believe is fine with me. I, however, have found that the more I learn and grow on this spiritual journey of Life, the more I realize that I really do not know the “truth”. There are many brands of Christianity; many ideas and concepts and dogmas. What would you say to the searching soul who is trying to find their way to God amidst this labyrinth of theological barriers that man has erected?

I know Truth for myself, but the only truth that I know to give to others is Love. There is a reason that the two greatest commandments in the Bible are to love … God is Love. If you love … then you are placing yourself in the arms of God. None of us can ever be perfect. To aspire for, or expect from others, perfection is a slippery slope toward misery. God does not want us to focus on our flaws, or anyone else’s flaws … God wants us simply to Love … and in doing so, to trust that God will lead us to where we are supposed to be.

In terms of the book, “The Untethered Soul”? I personally believe that this is the precise message that is being described. I have no problem being both a Christian and someone who finds great meaning in this book, or any other teachings from any other religion or philosophy.

What have you to fear if you have a relationship with Jesus? I assume that you believe Jesus is capable of overcoming any other spiritual force you might come across … if that is so, why is there so much fear? I have taken my very personal relationship with Jesus into the study of many different religions. I have gone through some of their ceremonies and rituals, with Jesus at my core … there is no need to fear. I have faced and overcome very literal dark.spiritual entities, with Jesus at my core … there is no need to fear.

Focusing on fear is not the life that God wants for us … it is not the reason that Jesus died on the cross.

I believe that in showing, and living, God’s Love I can do no wrong. The only time I do wrong is when I am NOT being Love. God, or the Holy Spirit, or Jesus … they are powerful enough to sort out the truths from the untruths, and to guide us accordingly … our finite minds do not assist God in accomplishing this.

If all you do share God’s true and unconditional Love? You will never go wrong. If all you do is strive to define and convey “truth” to the masses … there are very many ways that you can go wrong. What does the Bible have to say about leading others astray?? I would rather be sure of myself … in Love.

Here are a few verses that came to me along this light:

2 Timothy 1:7
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”

Psalm 27:1
“The LORD is my light and my salvation– whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life– of whom shall I be afraid?”

Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

I hope that you DO compare what the Bible has to say with what this book has to say … because I personally was moved and inspired by God many times over in reading it … and I continue to be.

I have his book too.The letting go was hard for me – the ego thought it meant that I should say “I let go of this” and it would not be felt and sensed any lo nger from that sentence was uttered. I discovered that I needed to breathe and be present after i said it – and just wait and allow the discharge of energies. Sometimes it wet fast, other times it seemed to take days 🙂 but the intent to let go is always there.
And – good to be aware of the difference between letting go – and resisting some pain or irritation that is there. Vast difference! 🙂

Yes, it truly is a huge difference. Often times, too, we distract ourselves so much that we don’t ALLOW that “discharge of energies” … it just keeps building up and makes it more and more difficult to even grasp what “letting go” means.
