Here’s my latest tearful experience meditating on an Adele song … one of these days I’m sure I’ll move on to a new artist, I’m just getting so much from her two albums. For those who haven’t read my prior postings on how I have started listening to Adele songs, here’s the short version:
The desperation and depths of love that her lyrics, and voice, and soul evoke made me start thinking of these songs as if God were singing those words to me. Because God DOES love us that desperately. This particular song fits that bill even more than any other song I have posted of hers.
When the song got to the part where the lyrics are “I’d go hungry, I’d go black and blue … I’d go crawling down the avenue” – images of Jesus being beaten and dying flashed through my head. It didn’t stop there though. Suddenly my head was filled with every martyr, from every religion, who gave their life for loving God … and to spread that love to others. That is what God has done as well … God literally is not just throwing everything at our feet; God is actually dying for us over, and over. It’s not just an unconditional love that sits back and takes rejection after rejection from us … it’s a desperate love that would suffer anything for us … just to have us return that love.
If that’s not enough to bring a tear to your eye … well …
I found myself wondering if I myself would make the sacrifice that those martyrs made … because really what they did was out of love. It wasn’t that they just believed in a religion so strongly that they refused to back down … it was that they were SO IN LOVE with God. They embraced God being in love with them, and they returned that love to the utmost level they ever could.
I can’t realistically say what I would or wouldn’t do in some sort of drastic situation. I can say though, that I am in love with God … and that the thought of wounding God so deeply as to deny that love … is nothing I would ever do. When I reached that place in my meditation … I was actually able to turn the song around again, and actually sing those lyrics back to God, and really truly mean them.
Here are the lyrics … I hope that viewing this song from this perspective will touch with the the reality of how ridiculously much God loves you … and how much God wants to be loved by you.
Make You Feel My Love – Adele
When the rain
Is blowing in your face
And the whole world
Is on your case
I could offer you
A warm embrace
To make you feel my love
When the evening shadows
And the stars appear
And there is no – one there
To dry your tears
I could hold you
For a million years
To make you feel my love
I know you
Haven’t made
Your mind up yet
But I would never
Do you wrong
I’ve known it
From the moment
That we met
No doubt in my mind
Where you belong
I’d go hungry
I’d go black and blue
I’d go crawling
Down the avenue
Know there’s nothing
That I wouldn’t do
To make you feel my love
The storms are raging
On the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change
Are blowing wild and free
You ain’t seen nothing
Like me yet
I could make you happy
Make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn’t do
Go to the ends
Of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love,
To make you feel my love.

Religion4All is an idea: that every human being (no matter their race, religion, sexuality, social status, lifestyle, or any other possible factor) is LOVED by God; just … as … they are.
We all are loved by God, and NO religion or person has a monopoly on it. Every single person on this planet is loved equally by God … SO many are cut off from God because they are told they don’t belong. God loves everyone … we ALL are beautiful creations … we don’t need to cringe when we hear the words “God”, or “religion”, or their judgments … God LOVES us all!
There is no requirement to change in order to be LOVED by God, or to LOVE God. God is LOVE, and LOVE is God … period. There is no one who God loves more than anyone else … there are only those who choose to LOVE more … to love God more, and consequently then to love each other more. In doing so, we grow closer to God … and know God.
By opening our hearts, and minds to God (free of boundaries like religion, or social trends); by LOVING God … we are exactly where we are meant to be. If we maintain that openness, never allowing any person or event to make us close our hearts, we will be guided by God to be who we are meant to be.
In that space of openness we can then live a life of LOVE, and be guided to where we are meant to be … forever in LOVE.
