The Soul Finds the Path

When the Sky becomes your Clothes

Throwing water at the dried out earth of our soul
One of the biggest mistakes we can make in our lives is how we go about creating pleasure. The easiest way of obtaining pleasure is in the external world (food, stimulants, intoxicants, activities, relationships). It is SO easy, sometimes, that we end up forgoing the ONLY thing that will actually provided us with real, and lasting, pleasure.
Pleasure should be a way of life, not a bunch of surface applications that never even get close to the source. It’s like throwing a cup of water on dried out, parched earth … sure it gets it wet momentarily, but in just a few moments that water will evaporate and the land … will still be barren. Yet we convince ourselves that EACH and every one of those proverbial “cups of water” will be what really brings us pleasure and happiness in life. Essentially our existence just becomes a life of perpetually throwing water at the dried out earth of our soul.
What we must do is figure out how to find pleasure from the things in life that are REAL. We have to dig DOWN into that earth of our soul, and find where the wellspring lies. We have to cultivate that wellspring so that it can heal ALL of the land, instead of just one little spot. This doesn’t happen when we are throwing water at ourselves … in fact, you could say that every instance we are going for surface pleasures as a source of happiness in life? We are preventing ourselves from doing the work that really needs to be done.
It’s more difficult to dig and cultivate than to simply throw a glass of water … but that is where TRUE happiness and pleasure comes from in life. Cut through that self-imposed veil of illusion and see things for what they really are … topical solutions will never bring you lasting happiness. True pleasure only comes from the Source that fills you up and has you perpetually overflowing with Love … so that you become a constantly flowing River.
Then, once that River is flowing freely within you, all of those exterior pleasures can truly be enjoyed from a place of inner health and wellness … instead of being the next thing you’re looking to for salvation from the underlying, perpetual unhappiness that life as a starving soul is.

Live in the Light of Day
I had a vision during my meditation time today: the word “LIES” had been tattooed to my forehead, and was in the process of being surgically removed. It really was not a pretty picture to have emblazoned upon the screen of my mind. As I thought about it some more though, I realized that it was actually a pretty apt metaphor.
Lies become such a permanent part of our lives, when we undertake them. They are like some sort of organism that keeps expanding and growing, until they almost seem to have a life of their own. If you live with lies for a long time, they seem impossible to overcome, or extricate yourself from. To do so would mean that you would have to literally change EVERYTHING in your life.
Ultimately though, that is for the best. A lie, just like anything else that is negative or part of the darkness, is a device that forces your heart to shut down. You cannot tell a lie and keep your heart open … you can only become a good enough actor or actress so that others can’t tell that you have closed your heart when you tell it. Just because nobody else can tell that you’re lying, doesn’t mean that your heart is open.
For a while, there have been old structures that keep clanging heads with the spiritual transformation that has become the phenomenon of my life. I tried to ignore them, or even preserve them, for quite a while … simply because to see them shatter would mean a good deal of pain for people I love, as well as pain for myself. Ultimately though, I have had to face the proverbial music … to live two very different lives is too much for anyone to perpetuate. Eventually one has to choose … either to go back to the way you were, or to bring the outer world into alignment with your inner world.
That’s why the vision I had is such an appropriate portrait for this … it IS painful, but it is so very necessary if you are to have an open heart … a deep, and profound connection to your Creator. Living with lies is no different than living with bitterness, or anger, or an unforgiving mentality … they all are a part of the darkness that spiritually blinds us. The only way to be free is to expose them to the Light … sometimes you simply have to face the consequences in order to live in the Light of Day.

God loves everyone … we ALL are beautiful creations … we don’t need to cringe when we hear the words “God”, or “religion”, or their judgments … God LOVES us all!
There is no requirement to change in order to be LOVED by God, or to LOVE God. God is LOVE, and LOVE is God … period. There is no one who God loves more than anyone else … there are only those who choose to LOVE more … to love God more, and consequently then to love each other more. In doing so, we grow closer to God … and know God.
By opening our hearts, and minds to God (free of boundaries like religion, or social trends); by LOVING God … we are exactly where we are meant to be. If we maintain that openness, never allowing any person or event to make us close our hearts, we will be guided by God to be who we are meant to be.
In that space of openness we can then live a life of LOVE, and be guided to where we are meant to be … forever in LOVE.

Release the Fragrance

Becoming a Child
Think of a child; an infant. Envision him or her for the next two years; exploring, expanding, adventuring, laughing, and crying their way through life.
When a child is climbing a tree and falls, do they never climb a tree again? If a child and one of their neighborhood friends go adventuring and the friend gets hurt because of their actions … does the child never go adventuring again? Does the child never make a friend again, for fear that they might hurt another friend?
No. What is the reason for this? A child knows how to let go … pure and simple.
As adults we allow ourselves to be trained, pruned, structured, disciplined, packaged, and shaped. We allow ourselves to be tamed.
If we are in a relationship and get our hearts broken? We vow that we will never again open ourselves in such a way. If we do something wrong, and someone gets hurt, we torture ourselves with guilt … as if such self-inflicted torture could actually take away the pain of the other. If we pursue our dreams and fail? We resolve that we must resign ourselves to doing what everybody else views as “the responsible thing to do”. In short … we do the opposite of letting go. We hold on to EVERYTHING and then drag it around with us, allowing it affect and mold the rest of our lives. LET GO!
To be childlike is actually synonymous with being Christlike … that being: unencumbered by negativity or darkness. Darkness cannot live in light … so, if you are caught up with negativity of any sort? You are blinding yourself … condemning your soul to a tiny cell of darkness.
Bitterness, fear, guilt, sadness, rage, shame … the list goes on … they are all simply darkness that needs to be exposed to the Light. Accept them for what they are and then let go; each and every time … just as one would accept darkness … with the knowledge that turning on the light makes darkness vanish.
Light is merely darkness transformed. We are merely the spiritually blind waiting to be enlightened. But that will only happen if we let go of everything that is the dark.
Like a fetus in the darkened womb … we are the Children of Light simply waiting to be born.

Osho on Jesus
I found this to be a very interesting read … and will use it as my words to meditate on today:
“Jesus tried to help people not to feel guilty. That was his whole effort. The whole effort was to tell people to accept themselves and not feel guilty, not feel condemned. Don’t say to yourself that you are ugly, wrong, a sinner. Don’t condemn. Whatsoever you are, you are. Accept the fact, and the very acceptance becomes a transformation.
Jesus never created guilt in people. That was one of his crimes. He tried to cheer up guilty people — that was his crime. He tried to tell them, “Don’t be guilty, don’t feel guilty. Even if there is something wrong, you are not wrong. Maybe you have acted wrongly, but your being is not wrong because of that.” Some action may be wrong, but the being is always right.
He accepted people; sinners were at ease with him, at home with him. That became the trouble. The rabbis, the bishops, the priests, started saying: “Why? Why do you allow sinners to be with you? Why do you eat with them, why do you sleep with them? Why are so many outcasts following you?”
Jesus said, “It is bound to be so. I come for those who are sick. The sick seek the physician; those who are already healthy, they need not. Go and think about it.” Jesus said: “I have come for the sick, for the ill. I have to support them and I have to make them strong. I have to bring light to them, I have to bring life to them again, so that their energy becomes dynamic and flowing.” No, Jesus is a light that does not show darkness. In fact, when the light is there, darkness disappears. Darkness is not shown by light; it disappears by light.
This is the difference. If a priest is there, he will show darkness. He is not a light; he cannot destroy darkness. He will make you feel guilty. He will create sinners — he will condemn and he will make you afraid of hell. He will create a greed and a desire for heaven and its awards. At the most he can create more fear and more greed in you. That’s what heaven and hell are: projections of fear and greed.
But when a Jesus, a sage, appears, darkness is simply destroyed. When the light is there, darkness is not shown. Darkness simply is not, because darkness is nothing but the absence of light.
If there is darkness in the room and I give you a lamp and tell you, “Go. And take the lamp with you, because with the lamp it will be easy to see the darkness…” If you go in darkness, how will you be able to see the darkness? — it looks logical. But absurd! Darkness can be seen only when there is no light. If you take the light with you, you will never be able to see darkness, because once the light is there, darkness is no longer there.
Jesus simply destroys darkness, he destroys guilt. He creates hope, he creates confidence and trust.”

Having Faith
Having faith is essentially keeping the door of possibility constantly ajar. The proverbial door is really your heart; an ever-transposing portal to the Divine path intended for us. The world passes through US, and with our hearts blazingly open … we are able to discern and traverse the spiritual landscape of God’s intention.
Blind but ever seeing. Deaf but ever straining to hear. Empty but always seeking to be filled by the only Essence that quenches this slaking thirst.
This is a state that is very rarely rational. In fact, if one would try to make sense of it they would be maddened to the point of despondency, and convince themselves to give up.
We do not have the minds to comprehend the brushstrokes of the Master. The incomprehensible milieu we perceive is but a tiny stroke on the canvas of what is intended. We strive to dictate our placement, shape, length of duration, and hue … without even knowing what we are a part of … it is thus that we pervert an intended masterpiece.
All we can do is sit back in the seat of our consciousness … and wait … watch … breathe … discern … and then act when we are prompted. Everything along the way is simply to be enjoyed, or grieved, and then let go of … simply trusting that wherever we wind up is where we are meant to be.

Empathy – Osho
My words for meditation today:
“Empathy is relating to people through the heart. But this is possible only if the mind is silent, if there are no thoughts in the mind and it gives way, opens the door to the heart. But ordinarily you are so full of thoughts there is no way to be sensitive.
Even when you love someone, you say, “I think I have fallen in love.” That too, is a thought: you think. Your love is also dependent on your thinking. You cannot do anything directly from the heart. Your mind has been trained, educated, conditioned in every possible way and your heart has been ignored in every possible way. By and by, you have forgotten that the heart is far more valuable than the mind. Your mind has become everything.
The heart is not a Christian, is not a Hindu, is not a Mohammedan, is not a communist — but the mind is. Different ideologies make the mind different. The mind is American, the mind is Russian, the mind is Indian, the mind is Chinese. But the heart? Have you ever thought about the heart? Is the heart also American, Indian, Russian? The heart knows no boundaries, but it has been put into a state of nonfunctioning.
Your whole energy has been diverted by the educational system, by religious teaching, by political ideologies. It has been forced to go directly to the head and bypass the heart. Slowly slowly you start living without the heart. And to live without the heart is not to live at all.”
