An apt reflection for today:
The biggest challenge we face in a time of crisis is not closing our hearts. Not only do we WANT to close our hearts, we also want to engage in activities that will take our minds off of the crisis. ANYTHING … just so long as we don’t have to deal with that horrible, heart-pounding terror that lives in our chest.
The important thing to remember is that whatever you do in a time of crisis, is what will define who you become after that crisis.
If you can’t stand the pain and turn to drugs or alcohol? There’s a pretty high likelihood that you’ll struggle with addiction in the next phase of your life. The same is true of food, sex, or even positive things like fitness or relationships.
The problem is this … whatever you choose to use as your vehicle for escape will eventually become your prison…
